<description><![CDATA[<br /><div align="CENTER" style="font-size: medium;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><span style="font-size: small;"><strong>Santa Monica Democrats Endorse Torie Osborn in Assembly Race</strong></span></span></div><div style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-size: small;"> </span></span></div><div style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></span></div><div style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-size: small;">With over 90 people present, the  Santa Monica Democratic Club endorsed Tori Osborn, a Santa Monica resident,  for the newly drawn 50th Assembly District.</span></span></div><div style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></span></div><div style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-size: small;">Santa Monica comprises 22% of likely voters in the district, and  will be a major battleground in the election this year.</span></div><div style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div><div style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-size: small;">Ms. Osborn, received 77% of the votes cast, current Assemblyperson Betsy Butler 13% and Santa Monica Mayor Richard Bloom received 9%.</span></div><div style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div><div style="font-size: medium;"></div><div style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-size: small;">During the endorsement meeting, Osborn called for fiscal reform and a renewed commitment to public education, health care, job creation, and environmental protection.  She stressed her background as a non-profit executive, a community organizer, and an educator, saying her </span><span style="font-size: small;">background prepared her to "tackle the tough stuff" and "forge lasting progressive change."</span></div><br />]]></description>
